Meet Ezra Farrington Snipe, New England's finest "buoymaker." Years ago, he took up residence
in this landlocked ship and he's been anchored there comfortably ever since. He has arranged
his shell collection carefully on a piece of driftwood and made friends with his neighbors, the local
birds.
Despite the fact that he can't quite master the correct spelling of his profession, there are
always dozens of commercial fishermen in need of his services. But Ezra's never too busy to take
time out for a short snooze in the afternoon sun. After all, his days begin at sunrise.
"I admire craftsmen who are good with their hands," says artist Charles Wysocki. "And for years
I've wondered who makes buoys - the fishermen themselves or someone else? What my imagination
eventually conjured was the image of salty, bearded Ezra Farrington Snipe."
With his exciting new use of realistic detail and a single perspective, Wysocki's works develop
a single story and tell tales of life in simpler times. Where the Buoys Are
is a tribute to the offbeat entrepreneurs of old
New England.
