Charles Wysocki takes us to a lakeside glen where a father reads the adventure
of Robin Hood to his family. Full of the warm details Wysocki is known for, the
artist created a rondel format which invites us to share the love and joys of the
family circle.
Charles Wysocki found inspiration for this cozy family portrait from the enchanted
depths of Sherwood Forest. On vacation with his family, Wysocki was intrigued by an ancient
tree which was fenced off and identifieed simply as "The Tree." With his sense of whimsey sparked,
Wysocki imagined Robin Hood himself settled in the shade of this majestic tree.
And with that fanciful vision in his mind, Charles Wysocki paintedRobin Hood. At first glance,
you might wonder at the title as such, but look closely at the book the father is reading. And, for
a touch of romance, notice the initials carved into the tree and try to guess whose they are. (A hint: Wysocki's
wife is named Elizabeth).Robin Hood evokes
the serenity of more innocent days.
