Charles Wysocki professes to a lifelong fascination with birds. He sees them as tiny human
beings, and watches their behavior at the bird feeders outside his home.
One of his favorites is the blackbird - "cocky, tough, raucous, and resilient." "The stark,
black shape is marvelous and the coat of feathers produces some beautiful highlights of blue,
green, and purple in the sunlight," Wysocki observes.
Mr. Americana has dressed this particular fellow in a dashing tuxedo, and composed a rhyme
to welcome him to the New Year, 1984.
