Print Description:
"Phuan is a seal point Siamese cat and our first pedigree. He was born near our home in a litter of seven kittens. We often visited him to watch him grow. When he was old enough to leave his mother, we put a warm baby blanket in a basket and went around to fetch him to bring him home to love. We learned very soon how different Siamese cats are from the usual variety of English tabbies, to which we had so far become accustomed.

We found a book with Siamese names in it and chose Buaphuan, which means water lily. We call him Phuan for a short, easy calling sound for him. He was so good with the children and most talkative. He would answer every time you spoke to him.

He used to crawl under the pram's cat-net when my son, Julian, was a baby, cuddle up close and lick him and make the baby giggle. Later on he shared Julian's play pen and stayed with him for hours looking after him. Oriental settings spring to mind when I paint Phuan. He has an Eastern bearing and is very proud and most caring. I borrowed my friend Barbara's Chinese rice dish for the painting, before which he hopefully sits, on a Chinese carpet."
