multiplicity of rock in the Canyon to be quite striking; rocks are broken away everywhere,
making interesting patterns.
The flights of the birds of the area set off the scale of the landscape. Ravens - heroes
of the Grand Canyon - seem to fly about for the sheer fun of it. It was here that I first
saw a bird fly upside down; it flipped over and back again as it was chased by another bird."
